1920s home, in progress bedroom. Furniture just purchased for a song. Hubby likes mission/arts n' crafts, I wanted more glam so this is our compromise. The area rug is Hubbies grandmothers, inherited - it stays and the colors blend (except the rose!. The room is 24x14 or so. The closets are tiny and have original mirrored doors. Glass doorknobs throughout the home. The picture molding stays but may be modified to one large pic. molding behind the bed rather than the two divided there now. I love the ocean and am thinking of a panoramic print with an espresso frame. Think ocean and sand colors. I think it may go well. Needs wall color, thinking of a complimentary neutral tan/beige with a soft blue ceiling. What do you all think??

We spend so much time in our family room! It is so inviting and warm: This room used to have cow and milk can wallpaper on it!! Do you believe it? I wished I took before pics.

Many years ago I really enjoyed the creamy carpet on our stairs in the foyer. But lately..like April it was needing something. So, off it came! Yes, me and my 2 daughters just ripped it all off. Including the landing and long hallway : What a surprise to Mr.Thrifty when he came home from work. Then a few weeks later he came home to this. I just told him it helps our toddler learn his numbers and that's why I did it ;D Shhhh

This is our half bath in the bar area. I faux granite painted the vanity top in here too. It only cost me $19! I just love the shine it adds to the room. It makes this 14yr. old contractor oak vanity seem like a rich granite bathroom sink! The faucets I even painted oil rubbed bronze spray paint. I spray them while they were even attached to the sink. Plastic was just put down around it. I continued my blue glassware collection into here as with the bar area.

Our small log home kitchen is open to the great room and gets lots of natural light. We did not like the original kitchen so we refurbished and reused with a faux technique I found here on RMS. We've got less than $1800 including the new convection/microwave oven.You've got to see the before to really appreciate the after.

I'm notorious for just switching up accessories to recreate a space. Well, a little more magic was need to transform our 2002 "builder white" kitchen. Not wanting to overdo expenses for our Florida market and wanting to try to stay green, we opted for a NO DEMO RENO. This space was transformed within 12 hours of one day: Graphite granite counter w/recycled glass dust, black granite bar-top with recycled glass flakes, a recycled glass mini-subway style tile full-height back splash, a 60/40 artisan sink, replaced drawer knobs for cup pulls, and added the splurge: the Kohler Simplice faucet. If Carter can do it - So can you. Our kitchen was transformed by using Granite Transformations and reusing our existing counters by covering with a new (no waste in a landfill. Even updated spaces can be refreshed with just the simple add of pattern & shift of accessories. This homeowner already loved her simple and clean hotel look I did a few years ago, but needed help to re-energize it - for under $200. Part of the "save" for the budget came from making the printed curtain panles & pillows from 4 Tommy Bahama Shower Curtains found on clearance for only $8 each. Other saves came from picking up a few new accessories at a discount and adding drama for free with fresh cut palm fronds. We're on the hunt for a round rug to add to the living room seating area. Read more about the space changes and where the budget went at: http://nyclq-focalpoint.blogspot.com/2011/08/under-200-fl-living-room-update.html Thanks!

Spa like on a small budget, from old and plain. My son and daughter in law recently bought a new home. They asked me to redo their bathroom. They wanted shades of brown and that is what they got. It was a good size bathroom but it had a lot of wasted space. I gutted the room and while doing so I found an open space beside the tub in which I added a wonderful built in storage space. The tub was taken out and replaced with a shower. The counter site was moved to the side wall and doubled in size. The cabinets have tilt outs and the silent close feature. The cabinet on the right has a laundry shoot to the laundry room below. The cabinets and granite counter top were a wonderful find for their budget. They could have easily spent most of their budget on just the cabinet and counter top. The counter top is St. Cecilia with a beautiful edge and under mount sink. Everything in the bathroom is new and it was all done for $ 1,600.00. I love shopping for bargains. It really pays to shop around when doing a remodel.

Here is what $1200 can do! ***Still a work in progress, but here's our story***
We remodeled two homes located over 200 miles apart at the time we started this kitchen remodel. BOTH were on a tight budget and with resale in mind, but we invested in some key elements. We transformed this builders' grade oak kitchen with standard vinyl flooring, into a vintage-inspired kitchen with a French twist.
Here are all of the elements:
* Cabinet refacing, using Rust-o-Leum Cabinet Transformations = $149.00
* Stenciled Backsplash, "Springtime in Paris" stencil from Royaldesignstudio.com = $100 stencil
* New Roman shade from SelectBlinds.com
* Drum light from Lumens.com by Elements, grasscloth $267
* Flooring from BestLaminate.net @ $1.99 sq. ft.
(In progress
* Butcher Block Island--IKEA butcher block in oak = $169 each.
We drove 150 miles each way for our butcher block, spliced them together + added a roomy 15" extension. (This added space for 3 more people! - a great entertainment addition!
* Corbels from Architectural Depot (supports for island = $74 ea x2
Some finishing touches are still being added, but we would love to know what you think!

Our Kitchen is 14ft by 14ft and in an old 1930's style cottage in the country. We gutted it and here are the results. Before and After. Still not done yet. So far it cost us around $2000.00 another $200.00 should have everything.

This is a bedroom I decorated in our guest house. The space is used most by my mother-in-law when she visits and I really want her to have a space that she can enjoy. The room is small. I know people say don't paint a small room a dark color but if the paint is matte and the trim is light and you use accents to brighten it up ( in this case I used mirrors then you can get away with it. Don't be afraid to experiment ..it's just paint. The walls are a dark brown. The amoire I made by combining three amoires from Target to make two amories...one for the bed room and one for the guest house living room. I'll post those pictures in a minute. This room was done on a small budget. Hence the Target reference. The "fandelier" is something I cooked up 10 years ago. I entered it in a contest about 5 years ago and have since seen it knocked off. tsk tsk. Anyway it's just a fan painted silver then leafed. I wired crystals to it. Not all that complicated but when I wanted to buy one 10 years ago there were none to be found.
