This little family room is right next to my kitchen. It is where I dwell most of the time. I designed it to remind me of being in the West Indies. I didn't want to be too literal but tried to strike a balance so it wouldn't be too much of a theme. At any rate I find it really relaxing and when I turn the TV down I can almost hear the waves. Nope! It's just the dishwasher...lol

I've made some updates to our kitchen: We put in some light fixtures to go along with the tropical feel of our home and did a few more updates as well! Since we are a surfing family, I thought I'd add the surfboards to this room as well! The kitchen has a very open layout with the walls opening to the living area.

We wanted a room in our basement that would be mult-functional. Here we have a library wall flat screen TV over fireplace stereo curio cabinets for our porcelain birds and loads of comfy seating. We love the tropics and went for that look.

This is the guest room of my faux finisher. She has a beautiful old home in the historic section of Wake Forest, NC. She spent several years remodeling it and this is one of the rooms I helped her with. It is so calming in person. Adding the sheer linen drapes filtered the strong sunlight coming through the numerous windows. The room has an awkward shape/layout so it worked best with some of the furniture angled. After we did this room she wanted to make it the master bedroom.

We had posted photos of our tropically themed den a while back. It had wallpaper in the first photos and since then we stripped all the wallpaper off! We painted the sofa wall almost red, a very deep dark pink for dramatic flair, and to offset the red in the large painting over the sofa. The side walls are tropical pink. You can't see the ceiling but it is sunset pale pink. All trim is white wood to match the bookcase. A new needlepoint monkey pillow sits on the largest sofa. Some new oil paintings have been added also. We enjoy listening to music, reading, and watching TV down here.

My living room was in desperate need of an area rug. My husband surprised me for our anniversary with a new jute rug. He actually remembered a rug I pointed out several months ago!

Continuing on the bold and bright trend (at least as it pertains to my house -which incidentally is for sale- here are some photos of the living room. This room sets the trend for the entire house: not a stuffy formal room but a canvas where I expressed my love for warm colors.

Thank God for Insurance...the day before thanksgiving, my husband and I came home to a busted water heater in our attic that flooded the entire living room. My first reaction was to totally freak out. My second reaction, however, was pure excitement when I realized this meant a brand new living room. So, this is the finished product after new hardwood floors, new furniture, and some new accents. I wanted an up-to-date look with a touch of traditional flare. I love the high back couch and chair with the bright, fun pillows. The rug was a steal from overtock.com, and many of the accents I painted cream to pull everything together...All for our $1000 deductible:
