Just wanted to add a note as to WHY the mantel headboard works in the link that Hopeless sent. You can clearly see that theirs is not a fireplace being blocked, as they have upholstered the opening and it sits high enough that you can SEE that. You might try doing the same to yours. Raise it and make an upholstered inset panel that fits tightly into the opening. This way, it is clear that the bed isn't blocking a fireplace and it looks like a headboard, and not just a "frame."

As for accent walls, they should only be walls that have no "interruptions" on them, such as doors or windows. You especially don't want to do an accent wall that has a window in it and there is another wall with a window, as well. That means that your window treatments are against walls of different colors and that should never be. Just passing on some professional design tips for those who might want to know. It certainly doesn't mean you have to change yours. It's your house and should make YOU happy!

Love the bed, the wall color is great also. I to have a huge bed, i think you have done wonderful but i think the piece missing is ,its not the headboard at all, adding to much as othes are saying would be to drastic, the picture is to smalll above the bed it makes for lost wall space add a bigger picture itll be beautiful, love it great job thanks for sharing

Very nice.I don't mind an accent wall....I have one in my bedroom,also. The addition to your accent wall brought tons of warmth to your room.A great and unique change from your before pics!

How about trying, maybe hand making, a box spring cover that wouldn't just look like a sheet, but special fabric to give it a finished look???

Absolutely love the headboard. It was the first thing I noticed and I thought "how cool is that." I think the bedding looks very good with the headboard and wall colors. However, I do agree that a bedskirt would work better to give it a more finished look.

@oldworld - it's supposed to look like a mantle - that's what I like about it. I am thinking of replacing the comforter..@Nancy-D - I don't like bedskirts - they always look disheveled - not a look I was going for at all. I like to use a fitted sheet over the boxspring - much cleaner look. @1175.. - I don't think it looks like it is blocking a fireplace - lol. I was just going for a very classic warm bedroom almost english colonial - my rug is in the brown family - it might not show up that way in pics. Just painted the accent wall - I like it. We definitely are not changing the headboard - we made it and are very happy with it - thanks for your constructive criticism!?! @ justaphoto - thanks, might think of new lamps in the future..right now, not an option

I think you have made some nice changes. I like the wall color and the way you have decorated the headboard/mantel. I especially like the area rug, but agree that you need a bedskirt.

Nice atmosphere! I like the headboard/mantel, whatever it is. It's not cookie cutter and has an inviting appeal. I do agree that you need a bed skirt and larger lamps might work better. You might want to experiment with larger lampshades, too. You have done a good job!
