This is a tragedy! Since there are mold issues and that is a health problem I would find a reputable contractor to deal with that aspect then you can move on from there. Ask family and friends if they know of someone or check with your local hardware stores. Good luck and keep us updated.

Ok what is with you and claiming I am in it for a free makeover? I have not asked for anyone to come in and makeover my spaces. Yes this is a major health issues! I hope that posting photos of both my bathroom and kitchen I could get ideas and tips in how to make the spaces better since I am new to DIY remodels. I also hope that others out there can see what cheap and poor contractors can do if you yourself don't know how things are done. These are before photos and I will be starting the demo this weekend and the frame work later on. I hope to post photos as it goes along getting tips, advice, and ideas from others who are not a stuck up snob such as yourself.

This is a health hazard. Check with local agencies, both commercial and charitable, for a loan to get this room fixed and up to health codes, especially if it's your only bathroom. No one is going to ride up and give you a free makeover.
