Basements

  • Unused basement area into neat Hookah type lounge area, This was an unused area of my finished basement. Back, now curtained area hides old primitive collectibles that I can't yet part with but don't want to use anymore. Dog bed and old sofa waiting for college aged kids to need are housed in this area. So, decided to make lemonaid out of lemons. Old cupboard was painted navy. Painted it pumpkin and did some moroccan stenciling on it and added pillows and moroccan lanterns. Family just brought the hookha back for me after a trip to the shore. It is sitting on an unused ottoman which I made into a moroccan table using a dollar "silver" platter from my local Dollar Tree! I stenciled that as well and found an aladdin's genie bottle. Hope my genie comes to help me now do my outside area!, Basements Design

  • Trapdoor to Basement, Build a trapdoor into your basement. If space is limited for a full stairwell, a well built trapdoor will give you access and let you harvest that space.

A couple of questions I received.

What type of cylinders did you use to help with the lifting?

Ans: I used cylinders from Bansbach Easy Lift. If you call them they will ask you for a drawing with dimensions and most importantly weights and then, believe it or not, one of their engineers will enter that data into a program and it will result with the right model and "pre-charge" loading of the cylinders. It takes a couple of days, but there is no charge for it and the results are perfect.

How did you apply the piano hinge so it was not visible when the door was closed, but still allowed for the floor on the trap door to clear the rest of the floor when opening?

ans: The piano hinge is mounted 1/16 of an inch below the level of the floor. It is exposed but not very visible since I painted it to match the floor as best I could. , Basements Design
