The goal was to give it a bold, unique and untraditional look.

Hope you like our new party central ..........

  • Basement - Family Hangout, This basement project was created from the cement on up. The transitional space was designed with varying zones in mind - home theater, bar, open play space (future pool table) and games area. The subtle coastal-cottage style helps to lighten up the long winters and provide a place to escape. The beach palette inspiration came from a small east coast fishing port - deep blue seas, weathered gray and white structures with sandy earth and natural tones sprinkled in. The playful pop of yellow gives the space some life - perfect for a family with young children. Given the low ceilings and lack of natural light, it was essential to make the space feel as bright and airy as possible - mirrors and strategic lighting help to achieve this feel. Built-ins help to give the space a custom high-end feel while providing much needed storage and functionality., Basements Design

  • Wine Cellar & Tasting Room, This is Phase II of our basement project. We built the wine cellar and constructed the wine racks from a kit. We designed the cellar around a mahogany wine buffet we found at Costco for $500. We built the exterior wall out of Castle Rock to resemble the cellar of an old building.

Several people have commented on the lighting which is very important to me. Photographs 10 & 11 are the only two I needed to use a flash. All overhead and sconce lighting use soft on/off dimmers with memory., Basements Design

  • Modern, warm, loft-like, Basement, I was going for a efficient use of space in this basement. We started from scratch. I picked everything out including the amazing laminate floor in the first half. We divided it up into two separate spaces. The first half includes a small kitchenette/bar with an easy to clean floor for parties. You enter through the arch and enter the movie theater room and exercise area. We love the way it turned out. I'm still working on decorating it. I want it to have an exotic feel. I still need stools and can't decide on what style. Let me know what you think!, Basements Design

It also has a half bath. The after has a family area with fireplace (electric), formal dining area and game corner for the grandkids. I've added pictures of our buffet area, kitchen and half bath., , Basements Design

  • Home Gym, This is the first phase of our basement remodel. This gym was designed so it could easily be converted to a bedroom if needed in the future or for resell.
Phase II - Wine cellar and tasting room will be completed in a couple of weeks.
Phase III - Bathroom, this will start in two weeks
Phase IV - pub bar and pool area
Phase V - home theater with fireplace

Yes, we actually use it. The hardest part about working out is getting started. I am not as good as she is getting into the gym. I have found if I force myself to "work out for 5 minutes" it is easy to stretch it into 30 minutes or more., Basements Design

  • Basement with ATTITUDE!, After four long months our basement remodel is finally complete! Prior to the total gut job the space was only used as storage. The floor was a happy accident. There were three layers of tiles we had to remove. When we got down to the concrete base, the glue from the tiles remained on the floor. I fell in love with the resulting black and tan texture and simply polyurethaned the entire floor to give it a high gloss sheen. I also fell in love with the exposed iron pipe work throughout and tried my best to keep the architectural details intact.

To offer a sense of more ceiling height I opted to go with lower set furniture. It is a basement and can be a bit dark so I infused color with the rust orange modular sofa. Each piece can be moved around to make a queen size bed if we have extra guests. This room is also attached to our new full bath so they have a pretty sweet in-law suite!

The stairs were originally covered in dark gray indoor/outdoor carpeting. That was one of the first things to go! The walls of the staircase are solid concrete so adding light sconces wasn't much of an option. I came up with the idea of using outdoor lighting in the risers. This offers the perfect amount of light down the entire staircase.

I can't tell you haw relieved I am this project is complete. I hope you like it as much as I do! Let me know your thoughts. , Basements Design
